Georgia O Keeffe s Influence On American Culture

â€Å"Georgia O’Keeffe is now an iconic figure, a woman who represents an essential version of the American Dream†(Hassrick 12). During the twentieth century it was a time where â€Å"American culture† had been going through conflicts and many artist had a difficult time making a name for themselves (Hoffman). Their was a very few who made it into the art world for themselves such as Jackson Pollock and Andy Warhol made a claim in American culture. Arts suchs Pollock, Warhol and O’Keeffe didn’t get this â€Å"position by being the best painters, but because of their deep emblematic power† (Hassrick 12). She was recognized mostly for her stunning flower paintings and other pieces of works.She worked with different mediums such as oil paint, watercolor, charcoal, pastel, and photography. Georgia O’Keeffe was born in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin on November 15, 1887. Her parents were Ida and Francis O’Keeffe and was the second child of seven. When she was young her artistic talent was recognized. She wasn’t like all the girls her age, she had an ambition. She didn’t want the typical career of an art teacher her dream was much bigger than that. At the age of twelve that’s when â€Å"her mother motivated her to take on watercolor lessons from a local artist† and she made the decision to become an artist (Georgia O’Keeffe 24).
